Pakistan in Peril
Pakistan was plunged into fresh crisis Monday evening as its traditional rivals, yet two major parties ended their six-month honeymoon, a week after they forced Pervez Musharrf to quit as president. Later on Tuesday, Asif Zardari appealed to Nawaz Sharif to return to the coalition and promised to reinstate the sacked judges of the Pakistan Supreme Court, but said there cannot be a timeframe for that.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif pulled out his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party from the ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to protest the government's failure to reinstate 60 senior judges Musharraf sacked when he clamped emergency in November last year. more...

The number of foreign workers in Britain has risen dramatically under Labour, with nearly 300,000 people coming from overseas to work here in the past year, figures show.

Asaram Bapu should pay up for violence: HC
The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday ordered a case be filed against the ashram of Asaram Bapu located in Motera area of Ahmedabad, in connection with the attack on journalists on July 18.
The court also ordered Asaram Bapu to compensate people injured in the Motera village clash and also directed the police to file FIRs if anyone approaches them with complains. more...

Vatican is anguished and has expressed solidarity with churches in Orissa state of India, where nine people killed either in mob violence or in police firing following the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati.

Infosys Tech to buy UK’s Axon for $750 mn
Infosys Technologies has offered to buy Axon Group plc, a UK-based SAP consultant, for £407.1 million ($750 million) in an all-cash deal, the company said after markets closed on Monday.
Infosys ADR was down 3.27% on the Nasdaq, along with other Indian issues following a fall in the Dow Jones. Axon shareholders have unanimously recommended the offer. This would be the largest acquisition by an Indian IT company.
