Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. It marks the time the Prophet Mohammed received the first verses of the Quran. It is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, and a period of prayer, fasting, charity and self-accountability for Muslims in the UK. All Muslims observing Ramadan fast during the daylight hours  for 30 days.
