કેપ ટાઉન, લંડનઃ વેસ્ટર્ન કેપ હાઈ કોર્ટમાં અની દેવાણી હત્યા કેસમાં વેસ્ટબરી-ઓન-ટ્રીમના ૩૪ વર્ષીય બિઝનેસમેન શ્રીયેન દેવાણી સામેનો કેસ ફગાવી દેવાની અરજી પર સુનાવણી ચાલી રહી છે. સામાન્ય અપેક્ષાથી વિપરીત જજ જેનેટ ટ્રાવર્સોએ મંગળવારે ચુકાદો આપવાનું ટાળીને આઠમી ડિસેમ્બર સુધી કોર્ટને મુલતવી રાખી છે. ટ્રાયલના ૨૪મા દિવસ, મંગળવારે પ્રોસિક્યુશને સાક્ષી ડ્રાઈવર ટોન્ગોને જૂઠા ઠરાવવાનો પ્રયાસ થઈ રહ્યો હોવાનો નિર્દેશ કર્યો હતો. જોકે, જજ ટ્રાવર્સોએ વારંવાર પ્રશ્નો ઉઠાવીને નબળા કેસ તરફ ધ્યાન દોર્યું હતું.

Discussions, debates and conversations are an important part of our lives. We Indians love to talk and debate over things – be it Cricket, Bollywood, corruption, water problems, child labour, women issues, education system in the country and so on. But how many of these conversations make a difference?

I spoke to Lady Kishwar Desai, an Indian author and columnist who has written extensively on women’s issues in various books and articles. Married to Lord Meghnad Desai, a member of the British House of Lords, Kishwar is based in London and travels to India quite often to do research on her books.

I caught up with her recently to know what she thinks about women’s safety in India and if things are any better under the Modi government. I hope you enjoy her interview.
