India’s new mood of hope 28/10/2014 6:38 am Urja Patel Diwali has brought a new mood of hope and expectation to India. There was a noticeable spring in the step of the vast crowds thronging markets across the country, an ebullience not seen in recent years. The figures told the story. The Sensex had gained 26 percentage points since last year’s Diwali, investors’ wealth, measured by Bombay Stock Exchange’s market capitalization, rising by 37 per cent, is largely due, said the pundits, to the Modi factor and the new dispensation in Delhi. In Maharashtra, the triumph was particularly satisfying as it is India’s foremost industrialized state,, with Mumbai, the seat of its administration, India’s financial centre.

Data released on Thursday reiterated that the Bank of England is signalling that it is in no rush to raise interest rates, even as Britain's economic growth continues to outpace that of most other industrialised nations.
