વારંવારના પૂર અને ભયાનક શિયાળાના કારણે દેશની કેટલીક કાઉન્સિલોને તેમના વિસ્તારના રોડ-રસ્તા પરના ખાડા પૂરવા માટે £૧૦૦ મિલિયનની જરૂર પડે તેમ છે. સ્થાનિક સરકારોના વડાએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે હજુ ગયે મહિને જ સરકારે રોડ પરના ખાડા પૂરવા માટે કુલ £૬ બિલિયનની રકમ મંજુર કરી હતી. પરંતુ આ રકમ પુરતી નથી.

બાર્કેલઝ બેન્ક દ્વારા જાહેર કરાયેલા આંકડાઅો મુજબ નાના વેપારીઅોની આવકમાં વિક્રમજનક વધારો થયો છે. ૨૦૧૩માં આવકનું સ્તર ૮% હતું તે આ વર્ષની શરૂઆતમાં ૫.૬% વધી ગયું હતું. વર્ષ ૨૦૦૦થી આવકનું પ્રમાણ ૨૦% જેટલું વધ્યું છે.

It was a quiet news week over the festive period for the pound. However the pace of annual house price growth continued to soften as 2014 drew to a close, slowing from 8.5% in November to 7.2% in December. This marked the fourth consecutive month in which annual growth has moderated, despite house prices increasing by 0.2% month on month in December. The slowdown in housing market activity is surprising given further steady gains in employment, a pickup in wage growth and the continued low level of mortgage rates.
