Kusoom Vadgama’s vehement opposition to Gandhiji’s statue in Parliament Square is irrelevant as it dwells too much in the historical and Gandhiji’s personal past, which cannot be undone by slandering.  Problems of the present cannot/will not go away by blaming global icon. Present problems need to be tackled on same vehemence as accorded to salacious past of Gandhiji. The attitude indicates colonial slant to abuse every thing Indian/ Hindu on basis of sex, or a hatchet job motivated by anti Gandhi lobby.

The enduring popularity of tobacco, and the rise in the number of children taking to it, is alarming. Young people start on these habits in the pressure of popular culture, failing to foresee the consequences of their actions.

સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં શિયાળાનો નહીંવત્ પ્રારંભ થઇ રહ્યો છે સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં ગત ચોમાસામાં અંદાજે ૧૦૦ ટકાથી વધુ વરસાદ પડ્યો હોવા છતાં અત્યારથી જ અનેક જિલ્લામાં પાણીની તંગી ઊભી થઇ રહી છે. મોટાભાગના શહેરોમાં પાણી વિતરણમાં ધાંધિયા થવા માંડ્યા છે. પાણીના ફિલ્ટ્રેશનમાં નગરપાલિકા અને મહાનગરપાલિકાઓ પણ વધતી વસતિ પ્રમાણે વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવી ન શકતા સૌરાષ્ટ્રમાં ભર ચોમાસે જળાશયો છલકતા હોય તો પણ એકાંતરા પાણી મળે છે. અત્યારની સ્થિતિ જોતાં શિયાળામાં જ પાણી કાપ શરૂ થઈ જશે અને ઉનાળામાં લોકોને પાણીની તંગી માટે તૈયાર રહેવું પડશે.

કચ્છમાં વર્ષોથી અટવાયેલા મહત્ત્વાકાંક્ષી ઘડુલી-સાંતલપુર ધોરીમાર્ગના પ્રોજેક્ટને કેન્દ્રના પર્યાવરણ મંત્રાલયની વન્યજીવન સમિતિ દ્વારા મંજૂરી મળી ગઈ છે. લખપત તાલુકાના ઘડુલીથી બનાસકાંઠાના સાંતલપુરને જોડતા ૨૫૫ કિલોમીટર લાંબા સૂચિત માર્ગમાં હાજીપીર, ખાવડા અને હડપ્પન વસાહત ધોળાવીરાને આવરી લેવાશે. ઓગસ્ટમાં આ રાજ્ય ધોરીમાર્ગને કેન્દ્રની બહાલી મળ્યા બાદ આ હાઇવેમાં ૪૦ કિલોમીટર જેવો ભાગ વાઇલ્ડ લાઇફ સેન્ચ્યુરીમાં આવતો હોવાથી પર્યાવરણવાદીઓના વાંધાને લઈને સુપ્રીમ કોર્ટે એ જ મહિને રોક લગાવી હતી. ગયા સપ્તાહે સુપ્રીમે રોક ઉઠાવ્યા બાદ પર્યાવરણ પ્રધાન પ્રકાશ જાવડેકરની અધ્યક્ષતા હેઠળની વન્યજીવ અંગેની ઉચ્ચ સમિતિએ ઘડુલી-સાંતલપુર હાઇવેને મંજૂરી આપી હોવાનું સૂત્રો જણાવે છે.
